Why is exercise important in arthritis?
By Dr. Kanthimathi

We might think that exercise will aggravate the joint pain in arthritis. But it is not so. Actually lack of exercise can make the joints more painful and stiff. Immobility can worsen the situation.

How does exercise help arthritis patients?
it improves muscle strength, favours flexibility, protects the joints and maintains support for the bones.
Research shows that exercises reduces inflammation associated with painful joints and reduces the pain.
It increases pain tolerance and eventually make the patient to feel better.
Not doing exercise can weaken the protecting muscles and create more stress and more pain on your joints.
The exercise should be planned by doctor and physiotherapist in such a way to have more benefits with least aggravating pain
